Sail Course
Our Sail course is an in-depth introduction to sailing. You will learn basic boat designs, rigging, and sail processes. The course proceeds into the physical aspects of sailing, sail applications, marlinespike, helmsmanship, navigation rules, and an introduction to heavy-weather sailing.
Our next course starts on Tuesday, Mar 7, 2023.
The class meets each Tuesday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 PM for six weeks.
Course Outline

Types of sailboat rigs and hull shapes, including sail configurations and standing rigging

Wind and water forces affecting sailboat stability and balance

Sail shape and tuning the standing rig

Steering and helmsmanship

Sailing upwind, downwind and spinnaker handling

Heavy weather sailing and storm conditions

Boat operations including docking, anchoring and safety issues
This course meets at the Harbor Boating Club, 323 W Shore Rd, Huntington
except 3/21 is at the Britannia Yachting Center, 81 Fort Salonga Rd, Northport
The fee for the course is $90 for Power Squadron Members and $125 for non-members
